Food Security and Livelihood

DEH is committed to ensure that every person has a right to a standard living that is suitable for his/her health and wellbeing. This can be reached by protecting people’s food and livelihoods.

DEH has thematic areas to promote and protect food availability and livelihoods

  • Cash assistance: we provide unconditional cash assistance to vulnerable and poor households that affected by conflicts, floods and drought to help them access diversified and well-nourished food, maintain stability and cope with Covid19 pandemic. We also rehabilitate water infrastructure through conditional cash transfer to help rural communities catch rainy water for future usage.
  • Strengthening household level economy: to break poverty cycles and to address causes of poverty and food security, we analyze household economic assets and prospects and working with members of these households to diversify livelihoods through small scale employment and entrepreneurship options. This entrepreneurship initiative target women and youth who are at risk for negative coping mechanisms by providing them technical vocation education, life skills training, functional literacy and numeracy education, entrepreneurial training, business startup support and job linkage support. We also help programme participants to apply their new skills through internships or enterprise companies so that they can gain confidence.
  • Resilience and disaster management: the different communities we work with are exposed to range of shocks and stresses; from droughts and floods to long-term effects of climate change, to conflict and market disruptions and range of personalized family level shocks. To reduce susceptibility of communities to these shocks, DEH works with local communities and governments to strength early warning systems, develop disaster management and response mechanisms and take early action to minimize the impact of shocks.
