Education

Millions of children in the Sub-Saharan Africa region are kept out of school due to conflicts and natural disasters, putting them in a desperate situation where their future is uncertain. In critical emergency situations, communities lose everything including schools. During emergencies, in the short term, education saves lives. Children who are out of school are often at greater risk of violence, rape, and recruitment into fighting, prostitution, and other life-threatening, often criminal activities. Therefore, we believe that ensuring access to education is fundamental to offering a safe learning environment. to protect children’s physical integrity, reduce the psychological consequences of the trauma linked to the crisis, strengthen the sense of stability and daily routine for the children but also for their communities. In the long term, education provides a return to familiar routines and instills hope for the future, mitigating the psychosocial impact of violence and displacement.

Our emergency education program is designed to help strengthen the local community’s education systems- both formal and informal. Investing in education in times of emergency helps build resilience and social cohesion across communities and is fundamental to sustained recovery.

Providing education means that children and young people can reach their full potential and will to a better life. For girls, it empowers them to have a chance of getting jobs, staying healthy and participating fully in society – and it boosts their children’s chances of leading healthy lives
