Development & Empowerment for Humanity (DEH) is a Somali-led humanitarian and development organisation founded in 2004 with a mission to break the cycle of poverty through innovative, community-owned solutions that promote long-term wellbeing and human dignity. Over the past two decades, DEH has evolved into a nationally recognised actor delivering integrated, multi-sector programmes across south and central Somalia.
DEH operates within a humanitarian–development nexus framework, combining life saving emergency response with resilience-building and empowerment initiatives. Its core programme areas include Health & Nutrition, Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH),
DEH aligns its work with internationally recognized humanitarian principles and quality standards, including:
– Humanity, Neutrality, Impartiality, and Independence – Do No Harm and Conflict Sensitivity – Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP) – Protection Mainstreaming and Safeguarding (including PSEA and Child Safeguarding) – Sphere Standards and sector-specific global guidance
DEH’s Health, Nutrition and WASH programme aims to reduce preventable morbidity and mortality among crisis-affected populations
DEH’s FSL programme addresses immediate food needs while supporting households to restore and diversify their livelihoods
DEH’s Protection programme promotes the safety, dignity, and rights of vulnerable and marginalized populations, with a strong focusto restore and diversify their livelihoods
DEH works to protect children from abuse, neglect, exploitation, and harmful practices while ensuring continuity of learning
DEH’s Women and Youth Empowerment programme strengthens leadership, skills, and economic participation of women
